Hypnotherapy for mental health, IBS and menopause

Founders Alex and Chris Naoumidis, Co-CEOs of Mindset Health, sit down with Bambi Francisco Roizen for the VatorNews podcast. They discuss how hypnotherapy can be used to treat physical conditions like IBS (irritable bowel syndrome and menopausal hot flashes) by changing the way the brain thinks about pain and other stresses.

Here are some takeaways:

  • Mindset Health offers hypnotherapy in one app. The Mindset app focuses on mental health issues (anxiety and depression), while Nerva, created by Dr. Simone Peters, is intended for people with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). The apps can be downloaded from an app store. The Nerva app costs $ 67 for three months. Typically, consumers will contact the app five to seven times a week for the first six weeks to learn how to cure their IBS. The remaining time is used for maintenance or check-in, usually once a week. If a person wishes to keep using the service, there will be $ 67 left over every three months. IBS is a chronic condition so if it flares up again, people are likely to rejoin.
  • How does hypnotherapy work to improve the bowel? Colon hypnotherapy is a guided process designed to help people focus on specific gastrointestinal sensitivities. The techniques use pictures and suggestions to help calm the digestive system and eliminate uncomfortable thoughts. The idea of hypnosis is that there is miscommunication between the brain and the gut. It is similar to how changes in the brain can alter the perception of pain. People with IBS typically have visceral hypersensitivity, which means a person has a lower threshold for abdominal pain. Hypnosis changes the way the brain regulates these messages and decreases sensitivity.

  • Hypnosis is an alternative to dieting. One of Dr. Peters’ study shows that hypnosis is more or just as effective as diets, especially the FODMAP diet.

  • The mental health app is called Mindset. It differs from Nerva in that the guided process follows a cognitive behavioral approach and instructs people to focus on what they can control versus what they can’t, or understand the outside world versus their perception. While the guided instructions or techniques are different, the process is the same in that a person closes their eyes and focuses on a specific topic.

  • The company plans to take both a B2C and a B2B approach. You are currently striving to expand to other providers – both dietitians and therapists. Your marketing for B2C included SEM)

  • The company currently has 9,000 to 10,000 users. 45% in the US and 55% in Australia and England.

  • Demography: 75% of IBS are female, so IBS is 30 years old; Mindset distorts more men, but closer to 50/50. Our next program is Hot Flash Management (Older Women’s Demographics). Each of our programs aims to do this

  • The next program Mindset will tackle is hot flashes, a common symptom of transitioning into menopause. Hormone replacement therapy was once the treatment. During menopause, women lose estrogen, and HRT replaces that estrogen with a pill. However, HRT is not recommended because it increases your risk of cancer, heart disease and many other diseases. Hypnosis is one of the proven clinically validated ones for hot flashes.

  • Differentiating Mindset is the use of hypnosis on various underserved conditions such as IBS and hot flashes that go beyond anxiety and depression.

  • Listen closer to the end when we talk about 50 foot questions such as: B. What is the main cause of the rise in mental health, particularly for the 18-24 year old population? We discuss technology as creating a “reality distortion field” that is not good for mental health and the role of religion and lockdowns.
