Health Gorilla’s APIs, founded in 2014, help developers access clinical data from a huge network or from EMR systems and laboratories. This means that they no longer have to integrate with LabCorp or Quest or Epic or Cerner. When involved in treating a patient, they can code once against the company’s API and then instantly access data from thousands of different providers on Health Gorilla’s network. This includes all major EMR and laboratory organizations.

Health Gorilla customers include Heal, a provider of home visits to doctors; K Health, a company that uses a machine that can mimic different diagnoses; DrChrono, a cloud-based medical billing software company EHR; and Virta Health, a digital therapeutic for reversing type 2 diabetes.

In Virta’s case, for example, Gorilla Health’s APIs are used to track lab readings for their patients, enable revenue recognition for their paying customers, and automatically trigger lab orders for each patient enrolling for diabetes management or receiving treatment Program. Virta makes approximately 6,000 calls to the Health Gorilla API every week.
