To date, 36 states have legalized cannabis. The possibilities are great. In all respects, building an industry that has survived illegally for decades isn’t seamless. It is now going through a one-time transformation and becoming a legal, taxed and highly regulated state through state-owned companies. Consumers want to treat it like alcohol without the stigma.
The ability of the state governments to react quickly and efficiently is still pending. In the tech world, when we need to get something done, programming engineers get together for a few days and nights to make the changes we need. There is no policy, just a mission to make a better website. Perhaps politicians could put all politics aside and learn a lesson from it.
Ultimately, everyone will benefit from this because of taxes. By May 2021, all states that regulate marijuana use had collected $ 8 billion (yes, billions) in taxes. That’s a huge number. For example, last month, cannabis taxes in the state of Illinois surpassed alcohol taxes. Think about it.
Listening to some politicians who are still discussing cannabis as a gateway drug or comparing it to heroin is so ridiculous. I would like to know how many of these politicians have ever made a move. There are innumerable medicinal benefits of cannabis that are coming to light since we have not allowed this to happen; Instead, cannabis is used to keep many communities, especially the black and brown communities, in jail.
This is from John Ehrlichman, who was Richard Nixon’s chief of domestic affairs 50 years ago. “Aside from the medical benefits, we knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or against blacks, but by getting the public to associate hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And if we both criminalize heavily, we could disrupt these communities. We could arrest their leaders, search their homes, break off their meetings, and denigrate them on the evening news night after night. Did we know we lied about the drugs? Of course we did ”.
In leisure time, people have used it for decades, even though it is illegal. Nobody’s going to put this in a bag again. The cannabis business is advancing every day. Politicians would do us all a great favor by legislating pharmacies, growing cannabis, and making products quickly. The federal government should primarily enact banking laws. The sooner every state benefits from taxes, the better off we are all.
